Special Interest in Prosthodontics and Periodontology
Dr Yuko Kurushima graduated from Osaka University in 2010 and has worked for Osaka University Dental Hospital for 7 years. During that time, she also obtained a PhD at the department of Prosthodontics, Gerodontology and Oral Rehabilitation at the Osaka University Graduate School of Dentistry, and qualified as a specialist in prosthodontics. Subsequently, she was involved in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students in Prosthodontics at Osaka University.
She also has a great amount of experience working for primary dental clinics, and mobile dentistry providing all aspects of general dentistry covered by Japanese national insurance to a high standard of private care. Also, she worked for several psychiatric hospitals where advanced knowledge in gerodontology and oral rehabilitation was required.
She has been contributing to dentistry not only clinically but also scientifically. In 2016, she was awarded a JSPS research fellowship which allowed her to develop her bioinformatics skills for 2 years in London. Her research covered genetics, epigenetics, microbiome, metabolome and epidemiology. Her research outcomes were published in high-impact journals including JDR, the top journal in dentistry.
After the two-year fellowship, she passed the ORE (Overseas Registration Exam) and qualified as a dentist in the UK.
Now she has enrolled in MClinDent Periodontology at Guy’s Hospital believing that acquiring advanced knowledge and experience in periodontology in addition to prosthodontics will allow her to consider full mouth treatment more in-depth and eventually provide better treatments for patients.
